You know when you find a place so perfect that you wonder if you're still awake or somehow stumbled into a dream? That's exactly how we felt at Four Seasons Tamarindo. This new outpost of the iconic Four Seasons Hotels brand is equal parts tropical jungle and 5-star resort; wrapped it in luxury, and sprinkled with just the right amount of "I never want to leave.”
Upon arrival we were immediately surrounded by 3,000 acres of lush, wild jungle. You literally have to drive through a private nature reserve to get there. It’s like the Four Seasons said, “Let’s hide this paradise so well that only those truly committed to vacation can find it.” And let us tell you, it's totally worth the hunt.
The room, you ask? Oh, just casually perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean, no big deal. Floor-to-ceiling windows, private plunge pool, and an outdoor shower with framed views of the waves below — this was next-level living. Every morning started with the sound of birds and the view of the sun rising over the Pacific. I mean, who needs an alarm clock when nature's got your back?
Speaking of nature, the design of this place is so in sync with the environment that you feel like you’re living in the jungle (with all the luxurious creature comforts of a 5-star resort, thank goodness). It’s modern, but with a rustic "we’re-not-trying-too-hard" vibe. Basically, the kind of place where you feel like wearing sandals to a five-star dinner is totally fine, but the service still makes you feel like royalty.
Here’s where things get serious: the food. We’re not even joking when we say half of our time was spent eating, and the other half thinking about eating. Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo has a few different restaurants options, but Nacho was our go-to. It’s their poolside gourmet taco eatery — nothing says “vacation” like lounging in the sun with taco in one hand and a margarita in the other. Gourmet tacos? Yes, representing the many regional flavors of Mexico, and they are nothing short of life-changing. In fact, we’re still thinking about them.
For more formal evenings, Coyul was the place to be. Our favorite dish was the grilled octopus, a dish that was so good we considered ordering another round for dessert. The chef uses local ingredients and makes everything taste like a love letter to Mexico. Bonus points for the fact that a lot of their produce comes from Rancho Ortega, the resort’s own (on-site) 35-acre farm. Farm-to-table, beachside? Sign us up.
Sure, lounging by the infinity pool all day is an option — a very good option, but if you need to sprinkle a little adventure into your R&R, Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo has you covered. There’s surfing, boating and jungle hikes where you might just spot rare wildlife. Think of it as vacation, but with an extra side of bragging rights when you get back home.
Golfers, rejoice — there’s an 18-hole course perched along the cliffs. While we didn’t play — the golf course deserved better than our questionable skills — the views were stunning and not to be missed. We opted for a morning pilates training session and sunset beach run because, well, all of those tacos had to be worked off somehow.
No luxury vacation is complete without a trip to the spa, and Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo does not disappoint. Tucked away from the main areas, down a winding path, the spa here is all about ancient healing rituals and locally sourced ingredients. we treated ourselves to a massage, and it was so relaxing we’re pretty sure that any lingering stress from home was left on the massage table. Yoga by the beach at sunrise? Sounds like something out of a wellness retreat brochure, but let us tell you—it’s just as magical as it sounds.
What made us feel even better about lounging in luxury was knowing the resort is eco-friendly. They’ve made a serious effort to protect the local environment, from using energy-efficient designs to maintaining a nature reserve that is home to the regions rare wildlife. So, while we were sipping cocktails and watching the sunset, we could rest easy, knowing that Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo we was doing our part for the planet, for us.
Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo is that perfect balance of jungle adventure, beach bliss, and over-the-top luxury. Whether you're here to nap by the beach, eat tacos poolside, or pretend you're an intrepid explorer on a jungle hike, it’s got a little something for everyone. The hardest part? Leaving. But until we can make my way back to this slice of paradise, we’ll just be daydreaming about those ocean views and maybe attempting some homemade ceviche — Spoiler: it won’t be nearly as good.
